How It All Began. . .

In the Fall of 1996 Marcy Tatken Feldman saw a familiar face at the grocery store. It was Debbie Blocker Manning from their Pasteur class of 1962. They hugged, kissed and spent an hour asking about old friends with whom they lost touch. They planned a lunch for 10 women, black and white, to re-connect.

Soon after was the Mumford 30 year reunion and Marcy invited about 18 people to her house to re-connect. That evening the group decided they wanted to get involved with their old school and tutor students. A reunion was planned and 250 alumni attended from as far back as the class of 1939 including beloved teachers from the 50’s! The Pasteur Elementary School Alumni Foundation became a 501 ( c) (3) and grew to over 550 members offering a variety of programs, field trips, educational materials, camp and scholarships.

In 2019 the name was changed to FRIENDS OF PASTEUR SCHOOL DETROIT to expand our reach to new volunteers and donors. We hope you join us in helping the kids and families of Detroit!

Our database has over 1,500 alumni who attended the school since 1939. We have supporters who live all over the U.S., Canada and Israel. We are diverse in many ways, but all have a special feeling for our old school, friends, teachers, and neighborhood.

We send periodic newsletters to keep you updated on what’s happening at school. Currently we have over 275 supporters. Many old friends have been re-connected through our Foundation. Some of our many activities include,  weekly reading to classes, tutoring, giving books to all the students, electronic tablets to all graduates and scholarships for post-high school education.

Please check out the whole website to view our many accomplishments, programs, letters from students, news, interesting stories, photos, facts and our newsletters. We will add more soon! We spent $34,000 last year on programs, field trips, camp, books, food, etc. for the children.
