Background Information:
FRIENDS OF PASTEUR SCHOOL DETROIT is an organization founded by alumni of Pasteur Elementary School who wished to make a contribution to the school in various ways, such as tutoring current students. There are more than 260 members of the Foundation. Since 2003, the Foundation has annually granted scholarship awards to deserving young men and women. These awards are for one year only. They range from $500 – $1,000.
Eligibility Requirement:
Applicants must have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.25 on a four point scale.
Applicants must have attended Pasteur Elementary School for at least one full year, but are not required to have been promoted or graduated from Pasteur.
Application Procedure:
Completed applications must be returned to the address indicated on page 1 of this application on or before JULY 10,
Each applicant must submit a short essay of at least 250 words. The subject of the essay may be:
(1) An experience the student had while at Pasteur, recollections about Pasteur, its teachers, or how their years at Pasteur influenced them, or
(2) Their career goals and what they hope to achieve in their lives.
In addition, each applicant must submit a copy of his or her high school transcript, and first semester grades for the senior year. If already a college student, a transcript from the previous year.
Selection Procedure:
Applications for scholarship assistance received by the Foundation will be screened, verified as deemed appropriate, and evaluated by a Scholarship Selection Committee.
Notification Procedure:
Finalists will receive individual notices of final results approximately August 1.
Award Payment Certification:
Scholarship awardees may enroll in the institution of their choice, including colleges, junior colleges and trade schools, provided that enrollment is by January of the year following high school graduation.
After matriculation, registrars of schools attended must send verification of enrollment and curriculum to the Friends of Pasteur School Detroit. When the required verification has been received, individual award payments (made payable to the institution) will be mailed.
Award Payment Limitation:
All scholarship awards must be paid within one year of the date of selection notification.
